Flowers leave some of their fragrance in the hand that bestows them. -Chinese Proverb

From the Designer

I'm often asked how I came up with the name "Butterfly Petals".

I've always had a thing for butterflies. They're beautiful and delicate. They flutter into your life and are gone before you really got a chance to look. That fleeting beauty translates well into flower designs. Something so temporary can have such a huge impact. While your wedding flowers can not live forever, they will be captured forever in photographs and memories of your wedding day. So in a sense I help design memories, not just bouquets.

My designs tend to take on a life of their own. Organic elements like twigs, feathers and even the occasional artichoke can find their way into my bouquets. That free-spirited wild nature captures a little bit of myself. But the wonderful thing about designing your wedding flowers is that I strive to bring as much of you into the design as possible. The result could be simple, traditional, over-the-top, modern, unique, the possibilities are as endless as the the flower choices themselves!

I got my start in the flower industry in college when I worked for a local chain florist. When I applied, I thought I would sweep floors and ring up the occassional order. Imagine my surprise when they told me I would actually be putting bouquets together. The florist specialized in "cash and carry" designs--a dozen roses in a vase or a dozen roses in a sleeve. The design process was an assembly line and it was very easy and fun. But I soon found myself sifting through the "leftover" flowers and putting designs together. As I learned more about technique and design I started practicing more and more. The store manager soon took notice and taught me the basics and mechanics of wedding flower design. I was hooked! Soon I was responsible for the flower designs for proms from three local high schools and all the wedding orders the store received.

When I graduated college, an opportunity to work in my field of study (journalism) took me away from the flower shop - I thought for good. But, in 2003 I got married and made my own bouquet - a bouquet that captured my favorite colors and flowers. I realized how much I missed this and wanted to bring other brides the same personal touches I put in my own wedding. In 2005 my husband and I opened Butterfly Petals. We appreciate all the brides who put their faith in us and have helped our company become such a smashing success!
